OkMaybe is run by OKMAYBE, LLC. You can delete your OkMaybe account and its data at any time, in the app or by asking us on this page. You don’t need the app installed to ask.
In the app
Open OkMaybe, tap Menu (⋯) on the Topics screen, then Settings, then Delete account. We text a code to your number to make sure it’s you; enter it, and your account is deleted. You can export your data first from the same screen.
What is deleted
Your record, your name, your number, your topics and every post and photo in them, your memberships, your replies and hearts, your My people list, and your notification token. Your number and the name a friend gave you are removed from their lists. All your links stop working at once, and everything else is removed within 30 days, including the usage events we hold for your account; we ask Google Analytics to delete its copy, which Google completes on its own schedule. Texts already sent cannot be recalled.
What is kept, and for how long
Sign-in record: your phone number and sign-in history in Firebase Authentication, deleted within the same 30 days. Google may keep its own copy for abuse prevention under its own policy.
Message logs: Twilio, our text-message provider, keeps logs of texts sent to and from your number under its own retention policy.
Server logs: records of requests and errors, including the internet address a request came from, kept about 30 days.
Reports and blocks: a report, and the copy it keeps of what was reported, with its author's name and number, is deleted 2 years after the report is made, or kept longer only where the law requires us to; so is the email copy of the report in our mailbox. If the person who made a report deletes their account, we remove their note from the report's database record and delete the email copy that contains it; the report still records which post or conversation it came from. A block is deleted when it is removed, when either person deletes their account, or when the person blocked asks us to delete their number.
Opted-out numbers: a record that a number opted out of texts, kept so we never text it again, until that number replies START, and a record that it replied STOP or START, for as long as OkMaybe operates, and as long as needed for a claim.
Numbers not to add: if you ask never to be added, a scrambled copy of your number, kept so no one can add it again, for as long as OkMaybe operates, and as long as needed for a claim.
Follow-up counts: deleted with your account. If a friend removes you before you ever sign in, how many invitations they sent your number is kept under a scrambled code for 12 months after their last one, so they can't re-add you for a fresh round.
Others' records of what they received: the consent records and digest records of people you shared with keep your name or an internal reference to you, as their record of what they agreed to and were sent.
Terms accepted: which version of the terms you agreed to and when, kept so we can show it, for as long as OkMaybe operates, and as long as needed for a claim.
Consent records: a minimal record of each time you chose how often to get digests, turned them off, for a topic or all at once, or switched between texts and notifications: when, on which device type and language, which disclosure you were shown, the name of the person who offered the topic, and the number it was given for. Kept at least 5 years after your last choice, and as long as needed to resolve a claim, so we can show what you agreed to.
The quickest way is in the app, as above: it checks it’s you with a code. If you can’t use the app, ask here. We’ll email you within 3 days, and text your number asking you to reply DELETE to confirm. We delete your account only after that reply from your number, within 30 days of it; an email can’t confirm it, and if no reply comes, nothing is deleted.
Thanks. We’ll email you within 3 days and text your number to confirm. Reply DELETE to that text, and we’ll delete your account within 30 days.
Or email hello@okmaybe.app about your number; we’ll confirm by text the same way.
