OkMaybe Terms of service

Terms of service

Last updated: October 15, 2026. Draft, pending legal review.

Use OkMaybe responsibly. Don't do illegal things. What you post is yours, and you let us store it and show it to the people you chose, with the exceptions described below. Your friends' replies to you are private. We provide the service as is, and our liability is limited. The details follow.

Agreement to these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and OKMAYBE, LLC, an Oregon limited liability company at 1929 SW Carter Lane, Portland, OR 97201 ("we", "us"), which runs OkMaybe.

By signing in to OkMaybe, by confirming a browser with a code on an OkMaybe link, or by choosing how often to hear from someone through an OkMaybe link, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

You must be at least 13 years old to use OkMaybe. If you are under 18, you may use OkMaybe only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these terms for you. OkMaybe is not for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them, and if we learn that we have, we delete it. If you believe a child under 13 is using OkMaybe, email hello@okmaybe.app.

Your account

Signing in

OkMaybe uses your phone number and a one-time code. There is no password. Keep your phone secure; anyone with your phone and number can sign in as you.

Reading without an account

Friends who read what you share do not need an account. They use links in texts, which work only for the person they were sent to. A link shows or changes your choices, shows posts in the topics offered to you, your replies, and earlier digests, and lets you reply, only in a browser you have confirmed with a code texted to your number; confirming agrees to these terms. That browser is then remembered for a year from its last use, until you tap "Not you? Forget this browser". A digest link needs no code to show that digest's posts or mark it read, so forwarding one lets someone else do both; treat links as private.

Your name

The name you choose to go by, which you can change in Settings, is shown to the people you share with, including in texts we send them from our number. Use a name the people you share with know you by. Don't use another person's name, or the name of a company, agency, or service, or any name meant to mislead. We may refuse a name, show no name in its place, or suspend an account that misuses one. The name a friend keeps for you in their own contacts stays private to them.

Your profile photo

If you add a profile photo, it is shown with your name as our privacy policy describes, including on invitation and digest pages anyone holding the link can open. Use a photo of yourself or an image you have the right to use. Don't use a photo of another person without their permission, one meant to make people think you are someone else, or anything sexual, violent, hateful, or illegal. We may remove a photo that breaks these terms, keep a copy as our privacy policy describes, and suspend or close the account.

One account per person

Please don't create multiple accounts or share an account with others.

Your content

You own it

Everything you post in OkMaybe, including text, photos, links, replies, and your profile photo, belongs to you. We claim no ownership.

What you let us do with it

You give us permission to host, copy, format, back up, review for safety, display, and deliver your content as needed to provide the service: to show it in the app and on the web pages, to show your name and profile photo to the people our privacy policy describes, in the app and on the pages our links open, including pages a reader forwards, to make link previews from links you add, even before you post them, to send it in digests to the people you offered it to, at the pace each of them chose, and to deliver your replies to the person they are addressed to, in the app and in their digest. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except that texts already sent cannot be recalled and copies may remain for the periods our privacy policy describes.

Who sees it

A post is seen by members of the topic you posted it in, and by people you offered the topic to, who can see its three most recent posts before deciding. A digest link that a reader forwards lets whoever has it read the posts in that digest. If a post or reply is reported, the people who run OkMaybe may review it, and the conversation it is in, to act on the report. We may also disclose content when the law requires it, as our privacy policy describes. There are no public pages or search; a link someone forwards shows its page to whoever opens it.

A reply is seen only by the person who wrote it and the author of the post it answers, subject to the same exceptions for reports and legal requirements.

When you answer a spot OK or Maybe, the person who posted it sees your answer and your name; others see only how many said OK, unless the person who posted it turned on Show who's in, when the people who said OK see each other's names.

Your replies live under someone else's post. They are deleted with that post, if its author moves the post to a topic you aren't in, or if either of you blocks the other. We don't warn you before that happens, except that we tell you before you block someone.

Your responsibility

You are responsible for what you post. Don't post anything illegal, harmful, or that you don't have the right to share.

People you add

When you add someone, you confirm that you know them, that you're allowed to share their number and name with us, and that they would expect to hear from you. Don't add anyone who has asked not to be added.

Spots and meeting in person

A spot is an offer to do something together, shared with the people in one of your topics, who answer OK or Maybe. OkMaybe carries the offer and the answers. We don't plan, host, check, or supervise what happens. We don't run background checks or verify who anyone is: a name in OkMaybe is the one each person chose, and we check only that they can receive texts at their number.

Whether to go is your decision. If you meet someone through a spot, you are responsible for your own safety and conduct. In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number; OkMaybe can't send help.

If you are under 18, you may offer a spot to meet in person, or say OK to one, only with the permission of a parent or guardian.

The person who offers a spot can change, close, or cancel it. We don't promise that a spot will happen, that anyone will come, or that every notice of a change will reach you. To report a spot that breaks these terms, use the app or email hello@okmaybe.app.

Text messages

OkMaybe sends text messages in two ways, and you should understand both.

If you use the app and allow notifications, your digests come as notifications instead of texts, and we don't text them to you. You can choose Texts in Settings, or when you first choose how often in the app; we show you what you're agreeing to first, and texts start only after you tap Get texts. Choosing Daily, Weekly, or Monthly in the app never starts texts on its own; only Get texts does. If you replied STOP, texts stay off until you reply START. If notifications stop working, your digests wait until you turn notifications back on or choose texts.

You can also turn digests Off in Settings, or when you first choose how often in the app: no digests are sent by text or notification, and your topic choices are kept for when you turn them back on.

At most 1 text a day about what people shared, depending on your choices, plus codes and links you ask for, and a text if a spot you said OK to is cancelled or no longer happening; rarely, that can mean a second text in a day. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, or STOP to stop all texts from our number, about every person and topic.

Reply STOP (or tell us in any way, including by email at hello@okmaybe.app) to stop all texts from our number, about every person and topic. We keep a record that your number opted out, even after deletion, so we don't text it again. Reply START to turn texts back on. STOP doesn't stop a friend texting you from their own phone. You can also change or stop any topic from the link in every digest, or in the app.

Acceptable use

Please don't use OkMaybe to:

Blocking and reporting

In the app you can block anyone you share with or who shares with you, and report any post, reply, or profile photo you can see. Blocking someone permanently deletes the replies between you and the hearts each of you gave the other's posts; unblocking doesn't bring them back. We don't tell anyone who blocked or reported them, unless the law requires it. If we remove your content or photo after a report, we may tell you it was removed.

There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. We aim to review every report within 24 hours. We may remove content that breaks these terms, keep a copy as our privacy policy describes, and suspend or close the account that posted it. To reach us about content, email hello@okmaybe.app.

Intimate images shared without consent

If an intimate image of you is on OkMaybe without your consent, email hello@okmaybe.app with your name and contact details, where it appears, a statement that you believe in good faith it was shared without your consent, and your signature. You don't need an account. We remove valid requests within 48 hours.

Intellectual property

OkMaybe and its logo are trademarks of OKMAYBE, LLC. OkMaybe's code and design belong to OKMAYBE, LLC and are protected by intellectual property law. Please don't copy or redistribute them without permission.

If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without obligation to you. We do appreciate them.

Copyright complaints

We respect copyright and expect you to. If you believe something on OkMaybe infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent at [DMCA AGENT CONTACT]. The notice must include your physical or electronic signature; a description of the copyrighted work; a description of where the material is on OkMaybe, such as the link it appeared in; your address, phone number, and email; a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.

If your content was removed after such a notice and you believe that was a mistake, you may send a counter-notice to the same agent. In appropriate circumstances we terminate the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe.

Disclaimers

OkMaybe is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee that the service will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that every text will be delivered; text delivery depends on carriers we don't control.

OkMaybe is not a substitute for professional advice. Content shared by your friends is theirs, not ours, and we don't verify it.

We rely on third-party services to run OkMaybe, including cloud hosting and text messaging providers. We are not responsible for their availability or policies.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages; lost data or opportunities; damages from service interruptions or errors; or the content or actions of other people, including anything that happens when you meet someone through a spot. To the same extent, our total liability to you for all claims is limited to the greater of 50 US dollars or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for fraud, gross negligence, or death or personal injury caused by negligence. If you live in New Jersey, or in another state whose law does not allow a limitation or exclusion in this section, that limitation or exclusion does not apply to you.

Indemnification

You agree to defend and hold us harmless from claims arising from your use of OkMaybe, your content, your violation of these terms, or your violation of anyone's rights. We will let you know if such a claim arises and cooperate with your defense.

Termination

By you. You can stop using OkMaybe at any time. You can delete your account in the app (Settings, then Delete account), or ask at okmaybe.app/delete. To stop all texts, reply STOP or tell us in any other way.

By us. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms, or for other reasons with notice. Where we can, we will give you a chance to export your data first. If we decide to close OkMaybe, we will give at least 60 days' notice in the app and on okmaybe.app, unless something outside our control, like a court order or a provider shutting us off, makes that impossible.

Some provisions survive termination, including ownership, disclaimers, limits on liability, and dispute resolution.

Dispute resolution

Please read this section carefully. It requires you and us to resolve most disputes by individual arbitration, not in court, and waives class actions and jury trials.

Talk to us first. Before starting arbitration or a court case, the party with a dispute must send the other a written notice describing it and the relief sought. Send yours to hello@okmaybe.app with your name and phone number; we will send ours to the phone number or email we have for you. Both parties will try in good faith to resolve the dispute for 60 days after the notice is received.

Small claims. Instead of arbitration, either party may bring an individual claim in small-claims court if it qualifies there.

Arbitration. Otherwise, any dispute arising from these terms or OkMaybe will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. We will pay the AAA fees that those rules assign to businesses. The arbitrator decides all questions about the scope, enforceability, and arbitrability of this section, except that a court decides whether the class-action waiver and the mass-arbitration provision below are valid and enforceable.

Mass arbitration. If 25 or more demands raising similar claims are filed against us or by us by the same or coordinated counsel, they will proceed in batches of no more than 25, with each batch decided before the next begins. Arbitration fees for later batches are not due until the earlier batches are resolved. The parties may agree to a different number per batch.

No class actions or jury trials. You and we each may bring claims against the other only individually, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective, or representative proceeding, and you and we each waive a jury trial. If this class-action waiver is found unenforceable for a particular claim, that claim alone goes to court, and the rest of this section still applies to every other claim.

Opt-out. You may opt out of arbitration by emailing hello@okmaybe.app, or writing to OKMAYBE, LLC at 1929 SW Carter Lane, Portland, OR 97201, within 30 days of first accepting these terms, with your name, your phone number, and a statement that you opt out of arbitration. Opting out does not affect anything else in these terms.

Exceptions. Either party may bring a claim in court for infringement or misuse of intellectual property, or to seek an injunction against a security threat or unauthorized use of the service.

Changes to this section. If we change this section, the change does not apply to a dispute that either party had already given notice of before the change.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, without regard to conflict of law principles, and by the Federal Arbitration Act for the dispute resolution section. Where arbitration does not apply, any court case will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Multnomah County, Oregon, apart from small-claims cases.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will tell you about changes in the app, on the web pages our links open, and on this page, not by text. If a change would alter how we use data you have already given us in a material way, we will ask you first. Other changes take effect after notice in the app, on those web pages, and on this page; if you don't agree, please stop using the service. Changes take effect no sooner than 30 days after notice. A change to "Dispute resolution" applies to you only once you agree to it, by signing in or confirming a browser after the change; until then, the version you last agreed to applies.

General

These terms, together with our privacy policy, are the entire agreement between you and us. If any part is found invalid, the rest remains in effect. Not enforcing a provision does not waive our right to enforce it later. We may assign these terms, and transfer your information as our privacy policy describes, to a successor to OkMaybe or to OKMAYBE, LLC, whether by merger, acquisition, sale of assets, or operation of law. A successor is bound by these terms and our privacy policy. You may not assign your rights without our consent.
